Certamen de arte joven

Oriental Financial Group has issued a convocation for entries in their "Primer Certamen de Arte Joven 2008". The contest is open to artists between the ages of 21 and 35 which were born in Puerto Rico. However, the artists do not have to be currently residing in Puerto Rico. The contest aims to promote emerging artists and is looking to find the best art that is original, relevant, demonstrates excellent technique with effectiveness and power.

Artists have until February 25th or 26th, 2008 to complete and prepare their works, before having to deliver them in the offices of Oriental Group between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Each artist is permitted to submit up to three pieces in any medium of expression, but which can not exceed 6' x 6' in dimension.

Registrations forms for the contest are available at the office of Oriental Group or in the respective offices of:

• Escuela de Artes Plasticas
• Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico
• Muse de Arte de Ponce
• Museo de Arte Contemporáneo

• Galería Petrus
• Galería Viota

The works will be judged on the 27th through the 29th of February by a panel; of five judges. The judges consist of:

• Luis Gutíerrez
• Marianne Ramirez
• Manuel Alvarez Lezama
• Mercedes Trelles
• Cherly Hartup.

There will be three prizes. First place will be $7,000, second place will be $5,000, and third place will be $4,000. The prizes are in exchange for acquisition of the works, which will become part of the permanent collection of the Oriental Group. The jurists will also select the works to form part of an exposition, to be announced at a later date, in Galeria 10.
