Popular DubStep Producer Set to Play Electric Daisy Carnival
If you haven't heard of SoundCloud, then you're in for a treat. According to their website, SoundCloud is the world’s leading social sound platform where anyone can create sounds and share them everywhere.
Recording and uploading sounds to SoundCloud lets people easily share them privately with their friends or publicly to blogs, sites and social networks.
An example of this slick sharing is the ability to embed a track on a website. Here is one of Datsik's latest, a remix of Linkin Park's "Until it Breaks." Very cool...

So that's what I've been doing for DatsiK. In this nugget I found in the archives of Spinner Magazine. It's an interview with DatsiK he shares his experience participating with music festivals, his roots, and guily pleasures:

I'm always shocked by how haphazardly events are thrown together and poorly advertised here in Puerto Rico. I literally just learned about this event yesterday, and it's tomorrow. Just in case you're like me, I wanted to share the details of the festival; it sounds like a good one.
Tomorrow, on the grounds of the Rio Grande Plantation, Eco Resort, Coors Light will host the Puerto Rico Electronic Music Festival. Featuring top electronic dance performers from Puerto Rico, the festival looks like it would be a lot of fun.
With three stages, the Lost Forest, the Groove Terrace, and the Bass Jungle, the festival has the setup for the ultimate rave. Literally on the footsteps of El Yunque, this festival has it all: hi-tech sound systems, light shows, special effects, and over 35 local acts.
I just wish that they had given everyone a little more time to hear about this one. I'm truly sorry I won't be able to attend, and at $15 a ticket, it would have been worth the drive and the $15 bucks just to experience a taste of the vibe. Of course, I bet they'll make up the low ticket prices with $4 beers and expense food kiosks! But still, 10 hours of tripping in the jungle to techno music; what could be cooler? What's a rave?
Rave, rave dance, and rave party are parties that originated mostly from acid house parties, which featured fast-paced electronic music and light shows.[1][2] At these parties people dance and socialize to dance music played by disc jockeys and occasionally live performers. The genres of electronic dance music played include house, trance, psytrance, techno, electro house, drum and bass, breakbeat, dubstep, hardstyle and many others with the accompaniment of laser light shows, projected images and smoke machines. Who is Skrillex?
“I’ve been deep into electronic music my entire life. The first records I ever owned were ‘Fat of Land’ by the Prodigy and ‘Come To Daddy’ by Aphex Twin,” raves Sonny Moore, better known as emerging electronic visionary SKRILLEX. “Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails were also early influences. I’ve been dabbling in making electronic tracks on programs like Fruity Loops since I was 14 years old.”
Describing his current sound as “a mix of dubstep, electro and glitch all thrown together,” new SKRILLEX release “SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES” reflects all of the above and beyond. The uplifting post-trance synth melodies of “ALL I ASK OF YOU” (featuring the soaring vocals of Penny) stands in stark contrast to the face-melting electro bass blasts of the massive electro-dubstep hybrid “ROCK N’ ROLL (WILL TAKE YOU TO THE MOUNTAIN).”
“I’ve listened to so much music for so long, it’s more about instinct than influence,” Moore explains about his sonic inspirations. “Coming up, I was into a lot of artists on the Warp record label like Autechre, Squarepusher, and Aphex Twin, so SKRILLEX tracks are inclined to have more changes than most dance tracks normally have. I can draw influences from almost anything. I just like to mess around and create cool new sounds and noises. I just go where the music takes me.”
After just one hugely successful independent release, “SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES” is the first SKRILLEX release on Big Beat Records, in conjunction with fellow electronic revolutionary Deadmau5’s freshly minted Mau5trap record label.
“For yea
rs, the artists needed the record labels. I don’t feel that way at all,” Moore stresses. “SKRILLEX has been 100% independent until now. I think it’s so important to be self-sufficient as an artist. Working with Atlantic / Big Beat, and cooperating with Mau5trap, allows us all to work as a team and expand on what’s already been built.”
Following its release on Beatport, the 9-song EP dominated the charts on the site, with the title track claiming the site's #1 slot (the first time a dubstep track has ever done so), 8 songs breaking into the top 10, and multiple tracks claiming the #1 slots on several of the site’s subgenre charts, including Dubstep, Electro House, Progressive House.
Aside from the immediate success of “SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES,” SKRILLEX has also made a name for himself as a highly sought-after remixer. He’s already produced officially commissioned remixes for such A-list artists as the Black Eyed Peas (“Rock That Body”), Lady Gaga (“Bad Romance” and “Alejandro”), and La Roux (“In For The Kill”).
SKRILLEX stands not only at the vanguard of electronic dance music, but the perpetually evolving new music industry as a whole.
“For me, it’s important to believe in and love the music you’re making. I gave away my first EP on my manager’s website, just so people could hear the music,” he enthuses. “It was downloaded by the thousands in just a couple of months, and it hasn’t let up since. That’s all the inspiration I need to keep making music.
“SKRILLEX can be anything I want it to be,” he continues hopefully. “There are so many different avenues for music now. Video games, movie scores — the possibilities are endless, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
I'm really excited that 2012 will kick off with a loud rave courtesy of Skrillex, one of the hottest new DJs to enter the techno scene. On January 4th, 2012 Skillrex will take over the Muelle Panamericano in Puerto Rico, and turn it into a rave scene extraordinaire.
Coors Light is sponsoring this event, so we'll probably be only to buy that crap once inside. Whatever, this is going to be great. In addition to Skrillex, Zedd y Alvin Risk will be throwing down the big bass. Skrillex is part of a new generation of artists that refuses to be restricted by any pre-conceived notions or expectations.
I've heard some describe his music as what it must sound like when Transformers do it. And by do it, I mean hot Transformer on Transformer sex. Skrillex, himself, describes his sound as "a mix of dubstep, electro y glitch, all together."
Background
Like many people, I owe Steve Jobs. I owe him for restoring music back to my life. When I bought one of the first generation iPods back in 2004, it brought music back into my life. Over the course of about 10 years I had stopped listening to much music.
I, like millions of others, listened to only what the radio played or whatever CDs and tapes I carried around in my car. The iPod meant I could load all of my favorite music and listen to it on demand. It was like being rescued off of a deserted island. I couldn't believe how much I missed listening to the soundtrack of my life and not the sponsored soundtrack offered by some local radio stations. Music = Life!
Dubstep and Techno
I love music. I love finding new music. I love the Internet for making my search for new music a joy. So when I came across electronic or techno music I was in heaven. It was like a mash-up of some of my favorite instruments, styles, and sounds. For me, it becomes even more special when you consider that by electronic, much of the sound is coming from computers that are running part of the slow.
Last year when Electric Daisy Carnival came to Puerto Rico, I was kicking myself in the ass for a year, for not going. So when EDC came back in 2011, I was there and it far exceeded my wildest dreams. I hope they bring it back again in 2012, but thanks to this Skrillex event, we'll get our dubstep groove on early in 2012.
